The Karen Grassroots Women Network successfully organised and ran the 4th annual Karen women’s seminar in Lay Wah, Hpa-An District from 25 to 26 October 2019.
Over the two days, 225 women representing 34 Karen women’s organisations, as well as individuals and village chiefs gathered to discuss Burma’s current political situation and how it impacts women specifically.
Important conversations touched on topics related to how women can continue supporting each other by strengthening our networks. The Karen women’s movement is without a doubt alive and well as efforts are made to highlight the agency and story of our sisters.
The seminar concluded in agreement on the lack of gender justice in Karen state and Burma, calling for perpetrators of such injustices to be held accountable.
