Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. KWO is in solidarity with continued calls to end violence against women – not just during the 16-day Campaign but every day.
Our theme, ‘Use your Power to Protect’ is reinforced by an urgency for those with authority to use their power responsibly. Women in Burma experience violence in conflict and in domestic and professional environments too often. Many are lacking the resources and access to services for justice. We look to those in government and to high-level stakeholders to speak truth to power against slow reforms to VAW legislation, and to condemn impunity for crimes committed.
Please see our statement addressing our theme and calls for justice for survivors. We also encourage you to show your solidarity by adding our #16Day Facebook frame to your profile picture.
