A new report by the Karen Peace Support Network, Virus Warfare: Burma Army destruction of Karen community defences against COVID-19, brings attention to how the Burma Army has disrupted efforts by the Karen National union (KNU) to protect communities in their areas against COVID-19. The destruction of health screening checkpoints and military attacks have fuelled displacement.
KWO joins calls by KPSN to international donors to start making aid to the Burmese government conditional on an immediate end to Burma Army offensives throughout the country, so that this aid is not weaponized against the ethnic peoples, and the entire population can mobilize and be protected against the pandemic.
