This project supports Karen refugee women’s efforts to generate income for themselves and their families. Through this project KWO assists women to find markets for their traditional handcraft products, and to develop the quality of the hand made products. The project directly promotes and protects our indigenous culture.
KWO works with a dedicated group of skilled weavers, sewers and embroiderers who live in the refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. The products are transported from the camps to KWO’s Mae Sot Resource Centre, where we have a small shop, and sold from there. We also accept orders for Karen handicraft products from individuals and organisations around the world and organize for shipment to those customers and payment to the producers in the camps.
